Gua Sha
Gua Sha – Chinese name for scraping, is a massage technique designed to relieve tension in the muscles of the body or face. It boost blood circulation, encourages lymphatic drainage and is beneficial for aches and pains.
Gua Sha involves scraping of the skin using variety of tools made from natural stone, coins, horn and lids. This encourages micro-circulation of the soft tissue, increasing blood flow. It draws toxins out from deep within the muscles and body. It is also beneficial in breaking up fascia, stimulates the immune system and reduces inflammation. When patients have pain, Gua Sha highlights the problematic area and usually some bruising will occur. This only happens over the area of pain and any surrounding tissue that is healthy does not bruise.
